An example of how a flawless Luella handbag appears to the eye
Dear my beloved Luella Handbag,
Oh Luella! Oh my Lovely Luella! Even though I don’t even know your name for sure, (because your tag has fallen out unexpectedly when I brought you home); that does not mean that I do not love you. In fact, my love for you is deeper than an ocean and more infinite than infinity. I was tremendously shocked today to find that your flawless self has become… defected! Oh, my Lovely! Tell me – your true and only love – why art thou scratched? I know my true-blue shabby hobo style, which includes a daily routine of wearing a worn-to-shreds Tee (Not By Alexander Wang), naturally faded-to-grey Ksubi jeans and vintage-looking not-vintage shoes, does not deserve a complimentary accessory like you, but that does not mean that you have to blend in with my ruggedness by destructing yourself to match my poor standards. I appreciate your almighty thoughtfulness and your overly-kind gesture, but really, if you want to be kind to me, please continue being cruel to me by maintaining your perfectly impeccable appearance. I would very much be grateful of you forever and ever.
Kisses and Hugs,
-Your Lover-

Smells like Luella: Frances and Bertha floral dresses from Luella
Ooo… Dear! Have you heard the terrible news? Luella has just lost a major investor. Singapore-based retail group Club21 has just left our favourite British label, consequently, forcing a halt in both public trading and production of its current collection [1]. Upon this, Ms. Bartley commented: “This is a very disappointing situation for everyone involved with the brand… I very much appreciate the support that VSQ has given me, but it is upsetting not to be able to protect jobs in this difficult economic climate.”

Rebecca, Gretel and Maggie dresses from Luella
Well… This is just shocking for all of us, because we just adore the quirky English fashion label! If you want to see the Spring/Summer 2010 line on the shelves, don’t hold back any longer, it’s definitely time to shop and show your support! One of the things I love the most about Luella is its party dresses. It doesn’t restrict the person who is wearing it, but rather, it lets your personality come out as well as guaranteeing infinite fun – something that is totally out of the question for a lot of high fashion brands. On sales now and on my must-buy list are the following dresses:
- Frances Floral Georgette dress, Ref: SS090085DRFGT0998, (£450.00 £225.00) – This beautiful relaxed fit pintuck dress with tiered skirt is perfect for the summer. The bow and ruffles give a very chic and gracious feel to this wardrobe staple.
- Bertha Floral Organza dress, Ref: SS090090DRFOR0998, (£695.00 £347.50).
- Rebecca Check Muslin dress in purple, Ref: SS090094DRCHM0696, (£365.00 £182.50) – This bodice dress is neat and elegant with a twist. Nipped in at the waist this piece has a beautifully delicate asymmetric ruching across the bust, giving it that something extra.
- Gretel Plain Organza dress in Lilac, Ref: SS090086DRORG0758, (£595.00 £297.50).
- Maggie Plain Organza dress in Blackberry (also available in pink and purple), Ref: SS090083DRORG2698, (£625.00 £312.50) – Worn with either one or two shoulder straps, this frill skirt prom dress has a neat asymmetric style. Another true example of Luella’s belief in modern eclectic British femininity.
All dresses available at Luella.com.

Flower Power By Luella
Forget all about flower by Kenzo and go flower power with exemplary creations from the lovable English fashion label Luella. Luella’s flower motives bloom vividly in the colours of the rainbow creating a cheery joyous vision that is positively infectious. As French writer Jean Giraudoux said, the flower is an example of the eternal seductiveness of life. The pretty round-necked short cuff-sleeved blouse with ruffle detail would, no doubt, emit a sweet scent to put a big smile on anyone’s face; and the fitted hip skirt with the asymmetric sash and the bow detail would certainly be the primrose in the center of attention amongst a bed of roses at any garden parties. Go, flower power!

Luella Spring Summer 2009 Leather goods
It must have been fate. Just as I am craving for some Luella, Luella.com is holding a sales with all its spring/summer 2009 stocks and what am I waiting for? With such great prices, it’s time to shop! Before we conquer the territory of pretty frocks, let’s wander in the land of Leather goods for some amazing investment buys. At one point in my life, I did wonder if Luella’s love-heart infused collections are too young for me, but I guess, young does not necessarily equate to dumb infantiles. It could be a fresh and fun attitude to life and for me that’s what Luella’s collections are all about. In my shopping basket, you can find:
- Plaque Messenger in Navy Nubuck [1], Ref: SS09PL04HBNB1005TU, (£495.00 £247.50) – A good sized messenger bag with 1 zipped and 2 patch pockets inside. The exterior features a pocket with 2-way zip, top handles, detachable shoulder strap and gold plaque detail.
- Envelope Clutch in black patent leather, Ref: SS09EV01HBPL1002TU, (£315.00 £157.50) – This oversized clutch is neat and dainty with an internal card holder pocket and is secured with a hidden magnetic fastening under the Luella heart.
- Peony Clutch in Hot Pink Patent Leather, Ref: SS09PE04HBPL1015TU, (£450.00 £225.00) – A fabulous oversized clutch with 1 internal zipped pocket. The exterior features twist lock fastening, magnetic clasp secured sleeve to the rear, as well as detachable signature heart charms.
- Large Plaque Wallet in Navy Nubuck [1], Ref: SS09PL08SLNB1005TU, (£265.00 £132.50) – A handy sized purse featuring 1 internal and 1 external zipped pocket, 8 card slots and 4 sections for cash and receipts. The purse is finished with matching zip pull and gold plaque details.
Endnote:
[1] According to dictionary.com, Nubuck is “leather that has been rubbed on the flesh side of the skin to give it a fine velvet-like finish”.

Graphic print cotton T-Shirt by Owen Plummer for Luella
@ Elements:
- The Hats off for Elements Exhibition by the lavish British headwear designer Philip Treacy is on show now till November 11, 2009. The most outstanding from the pack, for me, is definitely the flower hat, which Mr. Treacy created for Alexander McQueen’s Spring/Summer 2007 show. Other than that, I also liked the Andy Warhol tribute hat collection as well as the comfy couches made in the shape of pretty hats placed all around the shopping mall. It really made me feel like I was drowned in extravagant style.
- @ Luella: Sales staff was definitely most friendly out of all high fashion stores I have ever been to. It was not uptight at all. It was so unbelievably relaxed! Perhaps more so because she said she liked the looks of my boots (Voila! Welcome to Luella!) and we had a casual chat about shoes – a topic I can go on hours and hours. Nonetheless, I really love the pieces by Canadian illustrator Owen Plummer for Luella. Unfortunately, the bags are sold out but there are still a few statement T-Shirts left (also available at net-a-porter). The girls said the next collection would come in around mid January. So be sure to be there on time to snap up all the new stocks!
- @ Louis Vuitton: Louis Vuitton’s grand opening! The hour I was there, I did not see anyone wearing anything extraordinary. Strange! Maybe I was too early?

Nichola Cyzy, Frida Gustavsson and Shu Pei Qin in Luella
Honestly, there was one point in my life when I feel that I am too old to wear Luella. So undoubtedly, during that time, my virtual life on the web became Luella-less. However, today, when I ponder upon pictures from Luella’s Spring/Summer 2010 collection, I came to that point of realisation: Luella might be cute and sweet and prim and proper, but that does not mean she is monotonous or age-specific at all. Namely, cute and sweet and prim and proper are not priviledged to young girls only, because the Luella girl is full of life and pleasant surprises.

My Luella for Environmental Justice Foundation (EJF) T-Shirt
I know. I know. You thought I fooled you to click onto this entry with the rather-clever title, but it is nonetheless a fact, as my Luella for Environmental Justice Foundation (EJF) T-Shirt was 100% soaked wet when I took this picture after washing. Today is a special occasion, because it is approximately 9 months since I purchased this T-Shirt; and despite the grainy photograph taken above, the print on the T-Shirt is still new and it is still sparkling white. So quality does last, no? Support Environmental Justice Foundation and viva la Luella!

Rusya told me she was going to Luella today and since the Fall/Winter collection is currently in store, it seemed like a good idea to have a closer look at the collection so that it comes more naturally in terms of dropping Luella-related hints.

Amidst this economic crisis, have we all became a bit of a cheap skate? Well… From what I experienced on Boxing Day, perhaps the rumour is true… People were jam-packed in stores as the sounds of credit cards being swiped are faded in the background of the conversations.
Nonetheless, on this bright sunny day, despite the fact that I had been drinking glögg [1] with smirnoff semi-heavily the night before, I woke up at 9am to prepare for my day out with the girls. I am not so sure if it is because I have grown apart from my friends or because I don’t shop with anyone regularly anymore, but I find the whole thing irritating: the fact that I go to shops that I don’t really go to normally. Of course, sometimes that is cool, because it can really open your eyes as you see something special and you fall in love with the store, but perhaps that does not come about so easily when you:
- have to wait in line to go in a store (Just the fact that I have to await annoys me already);
- are swarmed by a sea of sweaty hyperaggressive shoppers.
Iks!
Nonetheless, the thing I hate the most is when you pay at the counter and your friends accompany you. Ok… For people who like to show off their class and money, I guess buying something cheap is a disgrace and they like it when people stand around when they buy expensive things; but with only a 3-digit number left in my bank account, I really should not act and look generous at all.
Yet, it was irresistible. I had to make a rather essential enormous purchase at Lush [2] that day, just because I could not stand the devil temptation. I went home with:

Yulya's purchase from Lush
- Buffy [Body Butter/Scrub] 79kr/90g;
- Ceridwens Cauldron [Bath Melt] 59kr/80g;
- Honey bee [Bath bomb] 49kr/200g;
- Mango Too [Mmm... Massage Bar] 99kr/100g;
- The Soft Touch [Body Butter] 99kr/90g.
About this extravagant expenditure for these luxurious goods in front of my friends, I just felt extremely embarrassed that I wanted to find a mousehole to hide. It seemed rather stupid to reason to others that it’s a whole year of supply and that I honestly normally do not buy that much, so perhaps, if I truly want to appear and act as a genuine authentic vagrant hobo, who behind the curtains like to buy expensive things from the British label of Luella [3], I am doomed to be a lone shopper…
Endnote:
[1] Glögg is the Nordic form of mulled wine.
[2] Prices in swedish kronor. My favorite Lush store is in Slussen (link), but I also find the store in Stureplan very nice. See you there!
[3] I had a conversation with this girl the other day and unknowingly, she made some sort of remarks on the lines of my Luella T-Shirt being cheap, because I seem to buy verrry cheap things usually. Arrrgh…
