Alexander Wang Spring/Summer Ready-to-wear 2010

Honestly, when Alexander Wang, the 25-year-old designer, first became officially established, I never really felt that he was up for the title. Due to his youthful appearance, I always felt that he might not be a serious designer; but I was so wrong. He is just truly talented. What a visionary? The real turning point for me was when I watched one of his interviews at saksfifthavenue.com, which really demonstrated his true passion for the clothes he creates and that really made me believe in him. I appreciate his work even more now that I know more about his aesthetics and I fully understand why Freja is all “Ja! Ja!” for his clothes.

Joop! Fall/Winter 2009/10 Collection Berlin

Lily Donaldson is the Face of Joop!

Lily Donaldson is the Face of Joop!

I know Lily’s fans are just going to hate me, but I have to say it: I hate it! I hate it! I just hate it! This season’s faces (Lily Donaldson and Sean O’pry) with all their respective mega status and perfect looks just turn me off. There is nothing I hate more than looking at over-the-top beautiful people. Thank god, they only have 4 images in the lookbook – all of the rest are glorious runway images. Juhu!

Poly Power: Dreaming of Natasha

Power Poly works it [1]!

Power Poly works it! For more see endnote 1.

You know you are an ‘it’ girl when you have the power to jump from one dream to another.

Guess what?

Ms. Rusya, who is just sleeping a few beds away from me, also dreamt of Ms. Poly yesterday night.

She told me she was walking down the plain suburbian streets of Tokyo in the dream and suddenly… Voila! There came the stunning Russian model Natasha Poly glimmering oddly out of an Asian crowd the ordinary.

Ms. Rusya quickly extended her hand to greet the 23 year old.

Ms. Poly, who meets probably a million people in a day, was at first uncertain as to who the short chubby girl was; but after two split seconds, the intelligent Russian model quickly figured out she was just another fan.

Hi, Nataaaaasha, how are you?”, shrieked the naive first year university students hyper-enthusiastically. “What are you doing HERE?”

I am on my way to meet my boyfriend.” Ms. Poly explained with poise and elegance. “The last few times I called, he did not respond, so I am just here to give him a surprise.”

Oh… Yeah… They are so annoying. Are you still with that 45-year-old man? [2]” asked the 19 year old daringly.

No. No. No. I’ve moved on.”

An extended awkward silence…

The pair started walking together and arrived in Belgium at a site with a waffle truck [3] parked by the side of the road. At the back of the truck, there is a banal-looking but immensely-masculine man of great built. He stopped his task of loading the truck up at the immediate sight of the long-legged model. Passionately, he greeted her, “Hi, Lily!” [4]

No, it’s NATASHA!”

Yeah, you are right,” said Mr. Boyfriend half-heartedly, then, quickly, turned his attention to Ms. Rusya to avoid further embarrassment. While the curious bitch protagonist of this dream wondered why on earth the hot Russian babe is going out with this not-so-Mathias-looking and not-so-rich guy, it was like he could read her mind as he explained that he is experimenting with different occupations and different paths in life whilst he is still young.

Ms. Rusya woke up.

What a silly dream?

Emilio Pucci: Dundas’ exotic erotic Valley

Notably neon: Natasha Poly shines in Pucci.

Notably neon: Natasha Poly shines in Pucci.

I am so sick of other designers abiding strictly and almost passionately by the current trends instead of experimenting with the new. After all, not selling well is one of the nightmares in the industry, especially under this environment, but selling your creative soul to the devil is simply not the solution. Thank god for Peter Dundas!

Va Va Voom Versace!

Carmen Kass in Versace Eyewear

Versaces Vision to the Future

The people, who view Ms. Versace as merely a typical blonde, is utterly underestimating the power of blondness, as she once again exhibits a praise-worthy collection that silently screams out: “Is there anything Donatella cannot do?”

Gucci Spring/Summer Ready-to-wear 2009 Milano

Ever since Mr. Ford left, I have mixed feelings for Gucci – the Italian luxury house currently under the reign of the creative designer Frida Giannini. When I say mixed feelings, I really mean it. There is something I love about it and something against it. It operates precisely at a 1:1 ratio and that is where the trouble begins, because neither side wins nor loses. Frankly speaking, Gucci is really something a part of me. It is an intimate subject matter and the fact that I cannot decide whether Gucci is still a friend or foe makes me utterly mental. This season, the emergence of such an uneasy feeling is no exception.

Vogue AU December 2008 – Lily Donaldson

Tragedy striked me today when I saw that Vogue Paris September 2008 issue is already off the shelf in my local newsagency. How it felt like the end of the world to be stranded on a completely isolated island from the World of chic and elegance? Then, in the darkness of despair, the high-shine high-voltage silver tube of mascara from Benefit which comes free with the December issue of Vogue Australia silently called out to me begging me to take it home as if its a loveless child at an orphanage. In exchange, I obediently paid the proprietor a large sum of donation.

Flipping through the magazine, either it is because I have not been keeping up to date with magazines and editorials or is Vogue Australia actually more interesting nowadays. The style of the entire magazine seems more creative and more like what a fashion magazine should be. It seems to be quite spot on with the trends as well as new girls. Lily Donaldson on the cover is definitely not a bad choice, though her face may be a little dull at times. Nonetheless, for those of you who could not afford the airfreight copy of Vogue Nippon December 2008 and missed the chance to see Carmen Kass in “Stranger in a Strange Land” (Photography by Yelena Yemchuk. Styled by Anastasia Barbieri), Vogue Australia December 2008 offers that chance for you to catch up with that with a 24-page feature.

Rating: 8/10 (for the mascara!).

I like… Sportsgirl?

Schuhen bei Sportsgirl

Schuhen bei Sportsgirl

Saw this a few week ago in my email inbox and wondered if half the girls who go into Sportsgirl regularly know which model these shoes are inspired by. Well… Let me help you ID these gorgeous girls! ;)

Gemma – Gemma Ward. [This one is easy!]

Raquel – Raquel Zimmerman? [Is she popular in Australia?]

Lily – Lily Cole? Or possibly Lily Donaldson? Both very popular.

Agyness – Agyness Deyn a.k.a. Laura Hollins. [Duh! So easy!]

Catherine – Catherine McNeil. [Huh?]

Erin – Erin O’Connor? Erin Heatherton? Nah… I think they are referring to Erin Wasson, because Erin W. rocks!

Balenciaga Fall/Winter Ready-to-wear 2008/09 PARIS

What a total grand affair Balenciaga was this season? I love those skirts with that ultra sexy split that goes right up the thighs. Although this set up a VERY high bar for the show, the show was able to maintain that energy and all the expectations, which I had right from the first look. I love the way the girls move – arms straight and rhythmically legging it out to that strong techno-electric music! Just like a robot – mechanical and yet absolutely feminine and no doubt seductive. Everything in the show from hair, makeup to jewellery was absolutely complimentary to the clothes and in particular that unique silhouette Nicolas Ghesquière created. His use of black and white in particular pointed towards the heavy contrast between femininity and power, which he was able to juxtapose so effortlessly.

Three looks which I love from the show.

Natasha Poly in Balenciaga

1. All the black dresses which opened the show. The shapes are very strong and yet, the split and in particular the “bump” at the bum made it so seductive, so ultra feminine and that is absolutely something I would wear one day…

Watch out! Devil in Balenciaga! Watch out! Devil in Balenciaga!

2. Yes, it is true that the models have naturally endlessly lean long legs by birth, but the way Nicolas enhances them is unique and so captivating. Polish Model Madgalena Frackowiak and Danish Model Freja Beha Erichsen are both girls who exude that energy perfectly.

Watch out! Devil in Balenciaga!

3. I might not be Lily Donaldson’s devoted fan 24-7. But her look at the show is something I would die for absolutely. I love how the moment she stepped out, I smelt flowers on a field under the bright sunshine: a mix of lily, chamomile and camellia. She was fresh and sweet and yet intoxicatingly ultra feminine.

This is the third season that I am totally gaga over Balenciaga. I don’t know what I would do without Nicolas!
