Emilio Pucci's New Nude
Peter Dundas of Emilio Pucci crafted a new sexy curve in the stimulating shade of nude for Spring/Summer 2010. Watch out! Ready or not – here comes his stunning and striking asymmetric cut-out and lace-up swimsuit (USD $645)! Surely, there’s nothing more provocative than this skin-flashing skin-coloured piece. Namely, playing with the perplexing visual effect using those crafty means of his, it is revealing in that distinctively dangerous and delightfully daring way – bringing us excitement of a new height!

Stella McCartney's Strapless Ruffled Dress and Versace's Belted Floral Shirtdress
Hey, everyone! Welcome to 2010! I hope you all had a splendid New Year’s celebration and that 2010 will be filled with many great moments for you.
To begin 2010 officially, let’s start off being spring loaded with something that is simple yet everlastingly elegant – floral dresses. Two of the top choices from Bergdorf Goodman’s Spring Preview for me are: Stella McCartney’s Strapless Ruffled Dress (USD$1,965.00) and Versace’s Belted Floral Shirtdress (USD$1,985.00). With its alluring printwork of the precious blue and purple flower, Versace’s silk shirtdress is remarkably fresh and lively. Ms. McCartney’s A-line skirt with the pretty wisteria print is for sure a girl’s best friend! I love the fact that it’s young, fun and so unbelievably refreshing! Perfect for dancing all day and all night long.
Available for pre-order from Bergdorf Goodman.

Alisa Matviychuk, Mina Cvetković and Ksenia Kahnovich in Lacoste
There are times, when I think is it really necessary for Lacoste to do a show each season? I mean what else can you do with sportswear? It’s always the same ol’ stuff! However, each season, Creative Director Christophe Lemaire proposes a strong well-argumentted rebut that leaves me gasping for more!

In The Deep Blue - Anya Kazakova, Yulia Kharlaponova and Alla Kostromicheva in Wunderkind
The first thing that came across my mind, when I first saw Wunderkind’s Spring/Summer Ready-to-wear 2010 Collection is that I like how graphic it is and the use of the two colours that are on the opposite ends of the magnet: blue and red. Read the rest of this entry »

Ever since Mr. Ford left, I have mixed feelings for Gucci – the Italian luxury house currently under the reign of the creative designer Frida Giannini. When I say mixed feelings, I really mean it. There is something I love about it and something against it. It operates precisely at a 1:1 ratio and that is where the trouble begins, because neither side wins nor loses. Frankly speaking, Gucci is really something a part of me. It is an intimate subject matter and the fact that I cannot decide whether Gucci is still a friend or foe makes me utterly mental. This season, the emergence of such an uneasy feeling is no exception.

Today, I am so happy, because you know what happened? I bought V55 and French Revue de Modes #13! What a surprise? If you could recall, I did declare my desire to own V55 back in October (link). I thought I missed those issues, but it turned out they just arrived late to my store. Phew… Best of all, my favorite covers were available, because V Magazine feature 14 covers this fall/winter 08/09, which are [1]:
- Eniko Mihalik
- Malgosia Bela
- Anna Selezneva
- Daria Werbowy
- Frankie Rayder
- Abbey Lee Kershaw
- Natasha Poly
- Sunniva Stordahl
- Christy Turlington
- Agyness Deyn
- Naomi Campbell
- Lara Stone
- Anja Rubik
- Eva Herzigova
whereas French Revue de Modes #13 features 13 different covers, which include:
- Abbey Lee Kershaw
- Karlie Kloss
- Ali Stephens
- Ksenia Kahnovich
- Olga Sherer
- Regina Feoktistova
- Polina Barbasova
- Rachel Clarck
- Arlenis
- Yulia Kharlapanova, Nicole Kasper and Sarah Stephens
- Eniko Mihailik
- Coco Rocha
- Sarah Stephens
What I had not foreseen in October is that I never would have thought I would become a ‘fan’ of the Australian model Abbey Lee. As a result of this new passionate flame, a war struck instantaneously in the so-called organ within my body called “brain” when I saw the two issues of V55 – Ms. Kershaw vs. Ms. Selezneva – stacked rather scruffily on the shelf, each of them alluring me to take them home with their wildly insanely framed good looks. After a 15-mins or so struggle, during which the vendor of the ‘brain’ just stood still with one eye fixed upon the aussie rebel and the other at the russian babe, Ms. Selezneva won as originally planned, only because her face is better positioned on the cover.
After that difficult selection, I barely had any energy to move even though I had been standing still at one spot. Perhaps this is because many braincells had been working hyper-actively previously. Thank god that the choice of French was made so easy: only two copies of Ksenia were left. I just had to choose one that is in perfect condition… and well… that took another 10 minutes.
But it’s worth it, as you can see below, they are looking good at my home, no?

Mmm... made in Russia
I just want to thank the lord for answering my prayers. I will treasure them for sure. See you tomorrow soon [2]!
Yours,
-Yul X-

[2] Sorry, you probably will not see me for awhile, as I would be studying them so hard. Well… See you soon!

Just as I was wondering what could possibly outshine that spectacular show from last season, the fireworks have already been lighted. The Yves Saint Laurent show has officially begun! Frankly speaking, I simply do not know where to start. The show was just amazing – ultra Parisian yet very Pilati in all ways! For me, as each look emerged on the slideshow on style.com, it came to me like a succession of seawaves – very soothing yet each look was so unique and ultimately extremely overwhelming!
The black trend has been going on for a while now. To move away from the darkness of the past, this season’s black comes in a twist that intertwines classicism with orientalist modernism and strikes in max power! Evident of this is the first look at the Yves Saint Laurent show worn by the Martinique-born model Sigrid Agren (Elite). Wearing a black midriff top, a matching finely-tailored skirt and a coat, the look has been tailored to meet the high standards of Parisian chic, elegance and luxury but at the same emitting a sexual sensual refinement that is quintescential and at the same time also modern and very today. Ultimately, that is another very brave move on the part of Creative Designer of the French Luxury House Stefano Pilati. As the iconic French actress Catherine Deneuve said after the show, it was a simple display of “everything but vulgar”.

Я тебя люблю, Ксения!
There was a time when I was young when the name Ksenia Kahnovich was yet unknown. It was a time when the fashion crowd was first striked by an invasion of models from the Ex-Soviet Union ruling the runway like Ekaterina the Great once did. Victory did not come as a surprise to Anne Vyalitsyna, Eugenia Volodina and “Supernova” Natalia Vodianova who were known as the 3 musketeers from Russia. Here, from that exact era, sprung the beauty Ksenia Maximova. One of the reasons why I like the ex-Gucci rush girl is no doubt her fair looks and unique facial structures, which reminds me a bit of my friend Val’ya from Kyiv. I know liking someone because of their looks is an absolute lame reason to like someone, but today while reading an interview of her from FMD, I found a more concrete reason to like the Russian beauty: her strong work ethics, her down-to-earth attitude and her grounding. That all adds up to make her ultra special in the industry. Here is the interview:
Did you ever think you’d be doing this [modelling]?
Ksenia: No, not really. I was bullied so much at school, that I was sure I was ugly.
Have you encountered any surprises along the way?
Ksenia: Major one was probably the weird stereotypes people have of models and people from fashion industry.
Ever get tempted to get pulled into the party scene?
Ksenia: I used to party much more than I do now. I just got bored. I don’t have much time to see my friends, so I don’t see a point in going to a club, where you can’t even hear each other.
Have you developed any new interests since you started modeling?
Ksenia: Yes, a lot. But I started at 16, so it was probably a part of growing up. I’m interested in world music, psychology, cultural studies, filmmaking and art, but art was always my passion.
Do you have a mentor? Who? What is it about them that affects you? Why?
Ksenia: I used to, but he passed away last year. It was the man who discovered me and some other Russian models. He was a very strong person.
Where do you see yourself in ten years? What could be your next career?
Ksenia: I’m working on it now. I’m doing Art BA in London. Hopefully I can do illustration some day, or even publish a kid’s book. But I would like to move to a warmer place within next 10 years.
What are your best beauty secrets? How do you stay in shape?
Ksenia: Sleep well, eat healthy. Exercise. Everybody says it and it’s so easy, but people still fail to follow.
What would you want people to know about you?
Ksenia: I don’t know… that blonds are not necessarily stupid? I do get that a lot in university unfortunately…
Any advice for new models? What advice would you give other models starting out?
Ksenia: Not to forget that modelling is not forever. It hurts people a lot sometimes to come back to the other reality.
Favourite all-time model:
Ksenia: Polina Kouklina
Favourite quote:
Ksenia: “Until lions produce their own historian, the story of the hunt will always glorify the hunter.”
I’d like to meet:
Ksenia: Sigmund Freud, to smack him.
