Freja Beha Erichsen, Raquel Zimmermann and Magdalena Frackowiak in Chloé Spring/Summer 2010 Collection
Perhaps it’s the golden rays she sends out each season at Chloé, I’m actually warming up to Hannah MacGibbon – Creative Director of the French Luxury Fashion House. Well… It’s not the most avant-garde show I have ever seen, but nonetheless, it’s delightful and it’s desirable! With this winning combination, I am confident that Chloé’s financial matters will be enjoying quite a pleasant ride in the forthcoming fall.

Kasia Struss, Magdalena Frackowiak and Freja Beha Erichsen in Balenciaga
Since I like my clothes sharp and strong, I was expecting and kind of really wanted to see the remarkable return of technorobo for Balenciaga this season. Well… This only made it all the more unpredictable and beyond amazing to see designer Nicolas Ghesquière turning the wheels once again and redefining the refined Parisian label for Spring/Summer 2010. Well… Afterall, we are entering another new decade [1]. This pleasant collection surely accompanies us through the times and pushes us forward to be ready for the imminent future, that is bright and full of energy and enlightened optimism.

Natasha Poly, Anja Rubik and Freja Beha Erichsen in Gucci
I had been thinking about Gucci’s Spring/Summer 2010 show for a week now. Surely, a show, with such a different approach, style and look as what creative designer Frida Giannini had been doing for her previously collections at the fabulous Italian fashion house, really needs some digesting. After further consideration, I came to the final conclusion that I like it. It’s fresh! It’s sleek! It’s sexy! Still super Gucci! Still super Frida! Still super Great!

Natasha Poly, Magdalena Frackowiak and Anna Selezneva in Alexander Wang
Honestly, when Alexander Wang, the 25-year-old designer, first became officially established, I never really felt that he was up for the title. Due to his youthful appearance, I always felt that he might not be a serious designer; but I was so wrong. He is just truly talented. What a visionary? The real turning point for me was when I watched one of his interviews at saksfifthavenue.com, which really demonstrated his true passion for the clothes he creates and that really made me believe in him. I appreciate his work even more now that I know more about his aesthetics and I fully understand why Freja is all “Ja! Ja!” for his clothes.

Iris Strubegger, Freja Beha Erichsen and Monika Jagaciak in Narciso Rodriguez
The two things that make each Narciso Rodriguez collection beyond special for me are: the manner Mr. Rodriguez intertwines a unique architectural structure into each piece of his designs as well as the details and attention he put into the entire piece of clothing - from top to bottom and front to back – before presenting it on the runway and in stores. This certainly makes his minimal designs anything but ordinary – a true gift to today’s strong and powerful women, who not only is smart, but also dresses accordingly. Wink wink, Mrs. Obama!

Lily Donaldson is the Face of Joop!
I know Lily’s fans are just going to hate me, but I have to say it: I hate it! I hate it! I just hate it! This season’s faces (Lily Donaldson and Sean O’pry) with all their respective mega status and perfect looks just turn me off. There is nothing I hate more than looking at over-the-top beautiful people. Thank god, they only have 4 images in the lookbook – all of the rest are glorious runway images. Juhu!

With the adoption of a rather dark palette from makeup to the actual clothes, the world of Roland Mouret for fall is painted in tones of sinister darkness to fittingly illustrate the collection as a solemn affair standing firmly against the world of dismal.

The Versace Code
Vlada Roslyakova, Michaela Kocianova and Ksenia Kahnovich at Versace Resort 2009

The Women of the Silk Road
Kasia Struss, Anna Ilnitskaya and Vlada Roslyakova at Versace Resort 2009
Certainly there are a few ways to view Versace’s recent resort collection. Some may just say: “Iks“. Others might say: “It’s… probably… not… that… bad.” I belong to the latter group of people, who unfortunately makes up a very minute number of the world population. Frankly speaking, I’m a Versace slut junkie and I cannot deny it. I can never say Versace is ugly. It’s sexy in its own way and this law holds true at all time!
The inspiration this season is safari meets India, so I see evidence of the Arabian Night everywhere from hair to the strong charcoal makeup to the clothes itself of course. This explains the display of baggy pants à la Aladdin or Ali Baba style (not posted here). Although it might take One Thousand and One Nights to learn how to incorporate those pants into your Versace wardrobe, there are many other wearable pieces that could go straight from the Versace showroom to the streets, for example the assemble as worn by Russian model Ksenia Kahnovich. A simple printed T-Shirt paired with a mini-skirt, a safari jacket and heels. Voila! She looks beautiful anywhere she goes. If that is not enough to stand out in a crowd, designer Donatella Versace’s sharp orange coat, as worn by Russian model Vlada Roslyakova, ensures that you get all the attention you need.
As for eveningwear, Versace continues to bring a display of dreamy to-die-for dresses made of authentic rich silk of all colours – whether long or short. The result is a luscious exhibit of Versace’s traditional craftsmanship and ideals. Sexy as always!
