Super Sonia Strikes H&M

Lara Stone and Anne Vyalitsyna show off Sonia Rykiel lingerie collection pour H&M

Lara Stone and Anne Vyalitsyna show off Sonia Rykiel lingerie collection pour H&M

After seeing Sonia Rykiel’s line for H&M in person, I am feeling a little bit confused right now. Perhaps it is because as I stepped out the door at home, extremely excited to see the fresh new arrivals, my loving mum reminded me once again that a pair of panties of that quality could be made at $USD 1.00. Arrrrgh… Thanks, Mum!

Well… If I neglect mum’s advice, I think the prices of Sonia Rykiel’s line for H&M are reasonable, because afterall it is evidently cheaper than the real line. Nonetheless, it’s still not to my wallet’s taste, especially the headband and the oversized brooch with the playful Rykiel big bow at respectfully $USD 34.95 and $USD 24.95. As expected, the store was flooded with people today. They all snapped a monstrous chunk of sexy bras and panties intimately in their arm. The favourite amongst the crowd was understandably the design with the colourful Rykiel signature stripes. With the armful of goodies, the girls found themselves stuck in a hideous queue outside the changeroom. Only a few dared to spend and went home with a tiny little Sonia Rykiel pour H&M bag. Well… It seems like no one was willing to go completely nuts for it.

Get Sexy in Sonia Rykiel!

Sonia Rykiel pour H&M Christmas 2009

Sonia Rykiel pour H&M Christmas 2009

Mark the Date! Sonia Rykiel for H&M’s lingerie collection is coming to stores worldwide on 5th December 2009. Ready or not, you know, it’s going to strike in style! So far from the pictures released, the collection seems to be playful and chic in the French label’s notorious ways! Although to me the girls in the campaign – Lara Stone, Anne Vyalitsyna and Caroline Trentini – looked out of place and not in sync with each other, I just love the way each girl looks so comfortable and at ease in it. That’s the way underwear should be, no? Body conscious, smart and sexy; Sonia Rykiel has it!

Caroline Trentini: Born in Brazil, Red Russian by nature.

Did anyone say Brazilians can only do swimwear?

Wrong! Wrong! Wrong!

In the March issue of Elle Brazil, Caroline Trentini, the red hot Brazilian model from Panambi, is dressed in Spring/Summer 2009’s hottest Tsarist-influenced clothes in the editorial “Red Russian” (Photographer: Gui Paganini. Editor: Susana Barbosa.). In it, Ms. Trentini shines naturally like a Grand Duchess and gives off that aura of imperial regality like no other. I have always known that Carol is not just your average Brazilian girl and most of all, not just your average fashion model. She is incredible and this editorial simply shouts that out to the world!

Vogue U.S. March 2009: Michelle Obama by Annie Leibovitz

Overall, I was quite pleased with the March issue of Vogue U.S. The price is reasonable for its content. It is not as thick as it once was, but it has pretty much all you need to know for Spring/Summer 2009 in terms of ad-wise and ed-wise. Perhaps Ms. Wintour should stay afterall…

Scarlett Johansson in Dolce & Gabbana's makeup ad

Scarlett Johansson in Dolce & Gabbana's makeup ad

I love how I flip through the first page and there is this double-double-folded page of a Dolce & Gabbana makeup ad with Scarlett Johansson channelling Marylin Monroe. It really sells to me – partly it is of course because of the precision makeup application by Pat McGrath and the ingenious photographic work by Sølve Sundsbø; but also because of its high resolution. Printed mags still win e-mags or forum scans for me.

Editorial-wise, I find it absolutely strange to see some European Vogue favorites in U.S. Vogue, like Anna Maria JagodzińskaAnna Selezneva, Edita Vilkevičiūtė, Sasha Pivovarova and Natasha Poly. Of course, these slavic girls are not bound to appear only in European Vogue, but because U.S. Vogue has been quite brazilianised over the years, seeing some Slavic faces in it just seems like meeting a Martian on earth for me. It is an exciting-yet-frightening experience. In particular, when Ms. Pivovarova and Ms. Poly had to do the signature U.S. Vogue jump to be photographed respectively by David Sims and Patrick Demarchelier, it was weird and brought back memories of old U.S. Vogue I had with Caroline Trentini. Where are you, dear Carol?

Other than that, it is always great to see Carol’s fellow brazilian model: Raquel Zimmerman. I must admit, I used to have a lot of doubts about Raquel, but the more I see of her work, the more I see how committed she is and how much energy she gives, and for that, I started to really appreciate her. She is a true professional.

In terms of clothing choice, the best were chosen of course. Watch out for Louis Vuitton’s exotically wild feather-decorated heels; Rodarte’s scary diamond cut leggings; Alexander McQueen’s leather corsette belt; python-print dress and python-and-whip snake slingback pumps both from Prada; caged T-strap sandals and caged ankle boots both from Yves Saint Laurent by Stefano Pilati; and Narciso Rodriguez’s zebra print pants.

Content-wise, I have not read through the issue yet, because I still have a load of print-outs from iht.com, nytimes.com, ft.com and themoscowtimes.com to read through, but the topics look quite interesting and relevant to today.

Overall, I give this issue 8 out of 10.

Considering that there is no annoying lengthy searches, no getting infected by viruses on imagevenue and no weird sex ads on image bam, buying it is a wise move, so I will definitely recommend it.

If you missed it, buy it on ebay.

Yves Saint Laurent Spring/Summer Ready-to-wear 2009 Paris

Just as I was wondering what could possibly outshine that spectacular show from last season, the fireworks have already been lighted. The Yves Saint Laurent show has officially begun! Frankly speaking, I simply do not know where to start. The show was just amazing – ultra Parisian yet very Pilati in all ways! For me, as each look emerged on the slideshow on style.com, it came to me like a succession of seawaves – very soothing yet each look was so unique and ultimately extremely overwhelming!

  • Black Plague

The black trend has been going on for a while now. To move away from the darkness of the past, this season’s black comes in a twist that intertwines classicism with orientalist modernism and strikes in max power! Evident of this is the first look at the Yves Saint Laurent show worn by the Martinique-born model Sigrid Agren (Elite). Wearing a black midriff top, a matching finely-tailored skirt and a coat, the look has been tailored to meet the high standards of Parisian chic, elegance and luxury but at the same emitting a sexual sensual refinement that is quintescential and at the same time also modern and very today. Ultimately, that is another very brave move on the part of Creative Designer of the French Luxury House Stefano Pilati. As the iconic French actress Catherine Deneuve said after the show, it was a simple display of “everything but vulgar”.
