Overexposed? That’s certainly the way that the Carmen Kass fan club would love to see the super idolised Estonian top model. Taking that term literally, photographer and editor in chief of Self Service Ezra Petronio has captured Ms. Kass through an indifferent light in this set of rather provocative photographs for the magazine’s Spring/Summer 2010 issue. Styled by the ingenious Suzanne Koller, the star of the editorial is seen dressed in the season’s hottest and rawest utilitarian pieces from Alexander Wang, A.P.C., Chloé, Céline, Balmain, Emilio Pucci to Hermès. Polaroids perfect!

Balmain’s Fall Guy
Balmain! Balmain! Balmain! It drives me insane! With Kristian Akergren, Richie Cotterell, Tristan Knights and last but not least, Adrian Bosch as the cast for its Fall 2010 lookbook, I am falling super hot over my heels. Rugged and raw, designer Christophe Decarnin shows us how unbelievably edgy yet powerfully sophisticated the Balmain man is. Infusing a fresh wave of nautical influences into the collection and mixing it with an invigorating grunge element, we certainly sense a fresh breeze bracing the Balmain look. Hell yeah! It’s not that hard to see that Balmain’s Fall guy is an all around cool guy!

Spotted
On the streets: so many people abuse leggings nowadays and there are so many fakes of Balmain’s zipper ankle booties on the street. It kind of makes me angry, but I guess that only means that Balmain is super mega it. Nonetheless, I don’t think I can shop in a cheap regular store no more. Refinement is the key!
@ Céline: Céline’s beautiful coat is beyond charming.
@ Isabel Marant: With all those checked outfits running wild in the barn-like decorated store, is the collection too country chic for me?
@ GF Ferré: The current display window is just sad. Ferré is so much better than that.
@ Subway station: stunned to see guy dude with two huge bags of Zegna and thought surely, he is not buying something this expensive as a gift. Oh la la! Maybe he’s not that macho afterall.

Joop! Fall/Winter 2009/10 Collection Berlin
I know Lily’s fans are just going to hate me, but I have to say it: I hate it! I hate it! I just hate it! This season’s faces (Lily Donaldson and Sean O’pry) with all their respective mega status and perfect looks just turn me off. There is nothing I hate more than looking at over-the-top beautiful people. Thank god, they only have 4 images in the lookbook – all of the rest are glorious runway images. Juhu!

Keeping up with Kass
Estonia is a little Baltic country with a population of approximately 1,3 million [2007 statistics]. With a percentage of 68.8% being Estonian, this equates to approximately 920,000. Supposedly half of the population is female and that 1% of that number has the right looks and the right body shape and height to be a model (I heard the percentage is actually higher) and 10% of that is in the age range of 15-25 and another 5% of that has authorisation from their parents to be models and that 20% of that has the appropriate persistance, diligence and attitude to become runway sensations, this corresponds to just 4.6 Estonian girls. Rounding this up, the final number is circa 5, which I find is roughly the correct number of true blue successful Estonian models: Anett Griffel, Carmen Kass, Hedvig Marie Maigre, Karmen Pedaru and Tiiu Kuik.
Hence, Estonian models are, in a way, a rare species in the modelling industry.
