I cannot call myself a fan of Calvin Klein at all – somehow the American label just seems to be too hyped, too popular and just not me. However, when I saw the Spring/Summer 2010 collection on Video Fashion, I just fell very deeply for it. I love the quiet but distinct and crisp voice the collection has. It is a real genuine charmer!

Since I like my clothes sharp and strong, I was expecting and kind of really wanted to see the remarkable return of technorobo for Balenciaga this season. Well… This only made it all the more unpredictable and beyond amazing to see designer Nicolas Ghesquière turning the wheels once again and redefining the refined Parisian label for Spring/Summer 2010. Well… Afterall, we are entering another new decade [1]. This pleasant collection surely accompanies us through the times and pushes us forward to be ready for the imminent future, that is bright and full of energy and enlightened optimism.

Luca Luca Spring/Summer Ready-to-wear 2010 New York

After seeing some of the most extraordinary work in London, Milan and Paris, New York Fashion Week just seems dull. Luca Luca used to be one of those interesting houses for me – fresh and innovative. That was back in 2003 though, when Milan-born designer Luca Orlandi was still in the house. Well… Nowadays, presence-wise, the American label just feels weak and I can see why from this collection.

Roland Mouret Spring/Summer Ready-to-wear 2010 Paris

I was pleasantly surprised when I spotted an Asian face opening Roland Mouret’s Spring/Summer 2010 Show.  That just comes to show the fashion world truly appreciates all kind of beauties from all corners of the world. Viva la Difference! Liu Wen was the name of the Chinese model, who graced Mr. Mouret’s glamorous runway as first face. Dressed in a deep V-necked dress in champagne gold with glimmering excess jewellery, Ms. Liu lighted up the illustrious runway with her grace and seductive Eastern appeal.

In The Deep Blue - Anya Kazakova, Yulia Kharlaponova and Alla Kostromicheva in Wunderkind

The first thing that came across my mind, when I first saw Wunderkind’s Spring/Summer Ready-to-wear 2010 Collection is that I like how graphic it is and the use of the two colours that are on the opposite ends of the magnet: blue and red. Read the rest of this entry »

Christopher Kane Spring/Summer Ready-to-wear 2010 London

Valerija Kelava, Vanessa Hegelmaier and Tao Okamoto in Christopher Kane

It was slightly shocking for me to see that Christopher Kane, the celebrated British designer, did not build onto last season’s glittery glam influence, despite its pleasant reception; but rather swapped it for something completely banal: checks. In a derogatory manner, it is something that reminds me of 50s housewives and boring farmers from the outback. However, worked by the magic hands of Mr. Kane, ordinary everydays checks are turned instantly into check-me-out checks! Voila! Get ready to fly in another one of Mr. Kane’s most wanted collection!

Roland Mouret Fall/Winter Ready-to-wear 2009/10 Collection Paris

With the adoption of a rather dark palette from makeup to the actual clothes, the world of Roland Mouret for fall is painted in tones of sinister darkness to fittingly illustrate the collection as a solemn affair standing firmly against the world of dismal.

Louis Vuitton Fall/Winter Ready-to-wear 2009/10 Paris

Opening with Polish model Magdalena Frackowiak in a racy lace outfit is for sure not something you would expect from the French house of luxury, class and elegance, but Ms. Frackowiak’s vigorous energy and no non-sense attitude quickly bring in an intense wave of erotic aesthetics and re-adjusted the bar of standards at Vuitton.

Cacharel Spring/Summer Ready-to-wear 2009 Paris

The season was spring/summer 2003. That was the season when I first discovered the magical fantastic world of Fashion and you know what? Cacharel was one of the first houses that I first loved. At least 5 whole years have passed and lots have occurred to my life as well as within the France-based fashion house with the change of appointment in creative director twice. Although Cacharel has been quite quiet recently, evident of this is that the collections have unfortunately not been featured on style.com since Spring/Summer 2003 (link), the house does not cease to produce things that I simply adore.

Jil Sander Spring/Summer Ready-to-wear 2009 Milano

I had been looking forward to seeing the entire Jil Sander collection for awhile and now that I have seen this display of purely remarkable creation, I feel a little scared about writing about it, because it is simply amazing! If I don’t write enough, I do not focus enough on the collection; and if I write too much, I will kill the simplicity of an iconique  Jil Sander Collection.

While any references are made in a minimal fashion, which in turn allows the ingenious Simons to exhibit his freedom to be inspired by the moment; the philosophy of the German fashion house to focus on elements of purity is no doubt present in this season’s collection as well.

I love the show, because it is very twisted in a peek-a-boo way! It really plays with the viewers of the clothes in that obscure manner. The hypersexual element is very minimal but when tuned to the right channel, it is very voluminous and so powerful, which makes it fit to be presented in the city that is no stranger to sex and not inferior to other collections presented there. The black stretch bodysuits with silken skeins of fringing drapping down accentuate every curve of a woman’s body perfectly and eroticise it to present a look that is simply understated in a sensual sexual way yet elegant and chic, see Polish Model Magdalena Frackowiak in her first outfit. In fact, the entire look is balanced ingeniously with an equal emphasis on the back of the various pieces. Some of which are opened up bare or draped with silken skeins of fringing – perhaps symbolising a sort of opening up as Simons brings us to venture with him into a brand new world that is incredibly streamlined and modern.
