The Jil Sander Cut

Jil Sander Suede leather half d’Orsay flat with cutout pattern.

Cutting Edge Jil Sander

A cut above average is certainly how we have always seen Jil Sander. Taking that idiom literally, Creative Director Raf Simons has created a range of clean and clear cut shoes, which made us run around in circles like a chicken with its head cut off. The three pairs, which we particularly trip over for, are the cutout flats (USD$550.00), the cutout loafers with stunning scalloped edges (USD $595.00) and last but not least, the jagged edge flats (USD$465.00). Taking the classics and modernising them, these striking shoes with its incredibly innovative designs are extremely edgy yet exquisitely elegant. Well… Cut to the chase! How can we not fall madly in love with these cutting edge charms?

The flats are available at La Garçonne and the loafers are sold at Barneys.

Bang! Bang! We Want A. Wang!

Australian model Abbey Lee Kershaw in Alexander Wang's Resort Collection

Australian model Abbey Lee Kershaw in Alexander Wang's Resort Collection

It totally stinks that we were not able to find any good [1] Alexander Wang stuff at final sales anywhere at all! Argh… Did someone hide ‘em all for themselves – instead of benefitting the food good of the society? Seriously, do I really have to pay full price to wear one of those extremely cool but thin-as-nothing Tee from him? [2] Besides, you know what? Last season stock is actually quite appetising on me, despite being ‘old’ and ‘out of fashion’.

My Heart Melts For Melissa

Melissa Black Flocked Ashanti Bootie

Melissa Black Flocked Ashanti Bootie

I am not really a fan of plastic shoes, but yessss!!! I like these pair of booties from celebrated plastic-shoes manufacturer Melissa. When I held these pair of shoes crafted from recycled and recyclable plastic in my hand, I could immediately feel there is something utterly special about them. I love the explicit details – from the alluring contour shape of the shoes to its luxurious soft black velvet flocked finishing. It says “I’m not a simple pair of shoes from H&M or Zara!”

A while ago, I have sworn that I won’t purchase another pair of round toed shoes, because after wearing that style for almost four full years now, I am a little sick of it; however, touching these Brazilian made waterproof pair and feeling my feet in ease when wearing them, I have to break that promise. I just knew I have to have it immediately.

Available at I Dont Like Mondays and also in red.

Rusticwork

KG by Kurt Geiger's Edwina Tan Courts Classic shoe

KG by Kurt Geiger's Edwina Tan Courts Classic shoe

This pair of Kurt Geiger’s Edwina Tam Courts Classic shoe (£140.00) may appear rustic, old-fashioned and even outdated; but in actual fact, they are nothing of the above mentioned. With its beautiful soft rich tan and subtle snake edging, this pair of heels speak discretely of timeless elegance; yet with its incredibly sculpted body, it strictly marks a modern take on the Classic Courts shoe design. For sure, they are the perfect companion for any pretty floral dress.

Chanel’s New Charm

Plastic Fantastic?

Chanel's Plastic is Fantastic.

Time flies and all of a sudden, Christmas is almost here! I don’t know about you, but do you remember Chanel’s Cruise Show, shown at the poetic setting of the Lido Beach in Venice in May early this year? Well… The charming cruise line is officially in stores now. I don’t know whether you have a chance to check out these incredible creations by all the incredible Mr. Lagerfeld, but all of the pieces are quite pleasing to the eye… well… all except of one pair of plastic high-heeled rain booties, which puzzled me tremendously at first sight, but regained its magnificent splendour shortly after.

Working plastic into the high-fashion bracket is certainly not a piece of cake, because it’s so stiff and uncomfortable. What struck me completely about that pair at first glance through the glossy display window is that it appears there are hideous holes punched on the shoe’s surface like contagious chicken pox. As a conscious consumer, I invited myself in store swiftly and immediately began harassing the “friendly” sales staff about my sincere concern over smelly wet feet. To my surprise, she took my genuinely bright question as an insult to the collection somewhat peculiarly, but held her regality remarkably by explaining calmly that those are indeed feet-friendly breathing holes.

Well… That all makes sense now, doesn’t it?

Give Me The G-Strap!

Givenchy's Straps

Gorgeous Greatness from Givenchy

If it’s not because of Russian model Anna Selezneva, I would have totally missed this hidden treasure and above all, important detail from the stylish French fashion house Givenchy: an extra strap, which goes around the heel of those gorgeous Holly strappy leather sandals (Above right £717.39) to make them truly exceptionally extraordinary. Well… Need I say more? Hardcore glamour has never been more explicitly expressed. Browsing on net-a-porter later on, my two eyes separated paranormally, as if I have landed in an extraterrestrial cyberspace, when I sighted the 8th and 9th wonder of the world. Instantaneously, one eye was glued to those lovely Bianco leather boots (Above left £652.17) and the other fixed on the extravagant choice: an exquisite pair of leather crocodile-print sandals (Above middle £717.39). Well… Obviously, in order to keep me sane at all times, these three pairs are absolute essentials! Available at net-a-porter now.

Terrific Thai!

Playhound by Greyhound

A daunting yet delightful collection from Playhound by Greyhound

When people talk about Thailand, the word “fashion” rarely comes to mind; and that certainly makes it all the more special to learn about this terrific Thai fashion label – Playhound by Greyhound. The brand’s philosophy mixes the main line’s chic and contemporary, simple but never boring style; and adds a touch of youth and experimental attitude to the clothes to make it all the more irresistible. For fall/winter 2009, the three pieces I absolutely adore are the shoes with the bone-chilling X-ray vision of the foot showing each individual toes in detail; the tie with the print of the beautiful texture of age-old trees as well as the tie with the bloodcurdling X-ray image of the arm. These pieces, for me, is worn at its best with the song X Ray Vision by The Maccabees blasting on the speakers. Creepy is charming, no?

Playhound by Greyhound is available at Seibu in Hong Kong, Traffic boutique in Moscow and Paris, Opia shop in Zürich, Fourstore in Berlin and Tjallamalla in Stockholm.

How high can you go?

Higher than sky-high heels from Versace's Fall/Winter 2009/10 Collection

Higher than sky-high heels from Versace's Fall/Winter 2009/10 Collection

When I first saw these amazing shoes from Donatella Versace’s Fall/Winter 2009/10 collection, I immediately asked myself how high can I go? Well… Never made for the weak, these va-va-voom higher than sky high heels are certainly made strictly for the stylish bees! I love how they could work great with trousers, skirts, dresses and even evening gowns. My favourite pairs are the peep-toe shoes in lila as well as the pretty pumps in scarlet red. Being a part of the glam squad would no doubt be a piece of cake when you are in Versace!

In other news regarding the extravagant Italian fashion house, not only has three of its stores closed down in Japan due to the immense effect the economic crisis had over there, but also job cuts has being announced: 26 percent of its worldwide work force would be cut by the mid of next year [1]. That is 350 employees out of the original of about 1,360 would lose their jobs. Well… This is certainly not the very best of times for family businesses, but as Ms. Versace said: “I AM a survivor” [2], I am certain the house would live on in sky-high style.
