Donatella’s Divine Deed

Donatella Versace Charity Tote Bags

Versace Canvas Tote Bags

I always knew Donatella Versace is a good woman, who not only is rich with lots of good fortune, but also rich with lots of love for children and society. I first spotted these lovely Charity Tote Bags at Lane Crawford, which not only caught my attention when I walked by, but also as I observed, loads of other people as well. It seems like success is well assurred for Versace’s charity project.

The idea of this charity, in fact, originated a few years ago when Ms. Versace’s met Chinese actor Jet Li, who told the creative fashion designer about the extent of damage the 2004 Tsunami caused in East Asia. In an interview by Rebecca Dana for The Daily Beast, Ms. Versace provided us an insight into her glamorous life and spoke about what the rollercoaster-like past has taught her and how it made her stronger today. Below are two excerpts from the interview.

It [the 2004 Tsunami] was terrible. I was so touched,” Versace says. “The priority in my life changed. It really pushed me to do something different. It changes life completely this experience. You want to do something for other people, especially the children.”

Versace speaks emotionally, even personally, about the psychological strain children suffer in times of tragedy. “I think the most important thing for children is not only food,” she says, “but to get over post-trauma stress, which is most important injury you have. All of a sudden to see everything disappear from her life, lose her parents, lose her siblings, the family, and try to forget—not to forget, you can never forget, but to try to get over this tragedy, you know.” It makes sense, considering her own life history. She says she thinks of Gianni every day. “I never look back,” she says. “It’s very hard for me to look at the past, but the past is inside me, of course, because I was there.”

As a result, Versace established Art Unites to support children in the United States and China. Children, who have suffered traumatic experiences, received therapy through visual arts. 1400 children took part in this project, entitled “friendship”, to create one of a kind Versace canvas tote bags. The result is an adorable-and-fashionable collection, which not only brightens our days with the sugar sweet visual images, but also the children’s lives, as 100% of the proceeds from the sales of these brilliant bags will be donated to Starlight Children’s Foundation and One Foundation.

It is certainly good to know that you are not only looking good in Versace, but also doing something good for the community.

It is no wonder the sexy Italian label is loaded with fans of all social status – from rock stars to supermodels to me. We all hail: “Versace forever and ever!”
