Leggy dolls with sexy glossy hair walked down the runway for Versace’s show on Friday, September 25, 2009. It is a classic Versace collection that is light, sexy and modern. Watch out! Milan is on fire!

The first thing that I asked myself when I saw the Versace show was: “Have you seen how high the shoes were?” This is certainly not the first time that Donatella Versace has challenged models walking down the runway with higher than skyhigh platform heels, but seeing her taking it to this new extremities definitely sets her apart from the others. Well… After all, Versace is not for the weak, you know?

I would not have forecasted Abbey Lee as first face at Versace really. I was thinking maybe the 5-month pregnant Gisele or even the curvy Isabeli? However, this fresh drop of Aussie blood has proven to be invigorating to the scene. As a Versace girl, Abbey fits right in. So incredibly sexy! I just can’t believe I haven’t thought of it sooner.

Basically, the entire collection is true blue Versace. There is a lot of super-mini super-fitted dresses. It is so unbelievably tight that I was surprised that the models can actually sashay down the runway with effortless style and that none of them looked like zombies, (well… all except the Russian model Sasha Pivovarova, who was once again doing her trademark: the scary “Murdererova” look).

Naturally, Ms. Versace infused the house’s famous versi-neon colours as well as sharply cut skyhigh splits into the collection. To toughen the look up, Ms. Versace worked on digitised geometric prints, precise laser cutouts, chainmail details as well as perforated and studded leather on chiffon. One of my favorite looks was Natasha Poly in a dress that looks like it is pieced together by small triangular plates and safety pins. Playing with fire is certainly the Italian fashion house’s specialty.

As for every Versace show, the finalé dresses spelt every letter of red-carpet glamor.

All in all, perhaps after a few seasons of rather modest shows, I am just glad to finally see some true blue sex on the runway and nobody does it the way the Versace family does it. Viva la Versace!
