Mary Katrantzou, the Greek-born designer, who just presented her second collection under her very own name, certainly has a reason to hold an after-party and most of all, to celebrate.
Namely, perfume bottles were the main inspiration for Ms. Katrantzou’s collection last season. For Spring/Summer 2010, we see the same strong graphical element in her refined work, but of a more abstract nature: multicolored trompe l’oeil patterns. This creates an entire world of visual wonders and are the perfect asset to show off a woman’s allure and sensuality. I love Ms. Katrantzou’s fantastic colour combinations, in particular the way the celebrated designer works with red and how she charges it with fierce passion of a previously unimaginable level.
In addition to working on what she knows best, Ms. Katrantzou also played with ruffles and asymmetry this season. These 3-D graphic elements boost and burst out the life of these outfits and make the entire collection simply a jolly jolt of joy.
Along with the strong eyemake-up and the heavily sleeked hair, these stern looking models appear half alien and half angel in their sleek and sophisticated gear. Mary Katrantzou is certainly proclaiming her phenomenal fashion invasion, as she takes us to a higher and higher place!
