Honestly, there was one point in my life when I feel that I am too old to wear Luella. So undoubtedly, during that time, my virtual life on the web became Luella-less. However, today, when I ponder upon pictures from Luella’s Spring/Summer 2010 collection, I came to that point of realisation: Luella might be cute and sweet and prim and proper, but that does not mean she is monotonous or age-specific at all. Namely, cute and sweet and prim and proper are not priviledged to young girls only, because the Luella girl is full of life and pleasant surprises.

Armed with an adorable red leather handbag, pretty pumps and a big canary-yellow bow in her hair, the sensational Swedish newcomer Frida Gustavsson opened the show in a peach-nude dolly dress. With that, the pretty porcelain ballerina doll perfectly define the looks that designer Luella Bartley will present this Spring/Summer: playfully formal or formally playful.

Putting aside the punk princess image of last season, Ms. Bartley presented some sensational suits decorated with pretty bows, a round collar and Minnie Mouse sleeves in playful colours, like sky blue, Mickey Mouse red and Swan Lake ballerina pink. Ladylike might be a word that comes to mind as a result, but the Luella lady always comes with a Luella twist.

Ms. Bartley introduced wrap coats and dresses to the Luella girl’s wardrobe and added volume to the dresses to visually create a shapely hourglass silhouette. Graphically, she decorated various looks with floral prints, oversized polka dots prints as well as eccentric heart-shaped cutouts. The most eye-catching look of which is the final look from the collection worn by the excellent Estonian model Kätlin Aas: a pure snow-white dress splashed with oversized blotchy polka dots. This graphic creation is bombastically fantastic!

Overall, the incredibly beautiful and remarkably romantic collection appears as something that came out of Ms. Bartley’s own crayon-colored fantastic fairytale book, but updated for 2010 with an awesome array of clothes, shoes and best of all, it bags that will surely blast the economy back to its hey days.
