It was slightly shocking for me to see that Christopher Kane, the celebrated British designer, did not build onto last season’s glittery glam influence, despite its pleasant reception; but rather swapped it for something completely banal: checks. In a derogatory manner, it is something that reminds me of 50s housewives and boring farmers from the outback. However, worked by the magic hands of Mr. Kane, ordinary everydays checks are turned instantly into check-me-out checks! Voila! Get ready to fly in another one of Mr. Kane’s most wanted collection!

For Spring/Summer 2010, Slovenia’s sensational Valerija Kelava opened the show for Mr. Kane in a checked outfit with a sharply tailored vest worn on top. I like the way she brought out a severely stern vibe from what would be a rather ordinary collection. It seems like something that only such a strong-yet-fresh face could enhance and Ms. Kelava is definitely the perfect choice for that!

Sharp tailoring is in the heart of the collection. It not only provides the clothing precision, but also adds that sleek sexy edge. Seductive double splits are one thing that I like for sure from this collection, especially on these gingham chiffon dresses. To emphasize form, Mr. Kane layered lingerie and corsettry on top of tops; and then, spiced up things with delicate lacework and floating layers of light chiffon. Thereby, introducing an extremely finesse feminine touch to what would look like irksome workwear.

Personally, I not only find Mr. Kane’s Spring/Summer 2010 collection a dream, but also its execution. Certainly, that would not be possible without the clever casting: an ingenious mix of the season’s most adorable faces, like RanyaFrida and Anabela; with the fierce stern lookers, like Freja and of course, Valerija. It really brings out the extremes of the collection: ordinary meets extraordinary. Kane’s magnetism has once again captured us right at the heart.
