Honestly, when Alexander Wang, the 25-year-old designer, first became officially established, I never really felt that he was up for the title. Due to his youthful appearance, I always felt that he might not be a serious designer; but I was so wrong. He is just truly talented. What a visionary? The real turning point for me was when I watched one of his interviews at saksfifthavenue.com, which really demonstrated his true passion for the clothes he creates and that really made me believe in him. I appreciate his work even more now that I know more about his aesthetics and I fully understand why Freja is all “Ja! Ja!” for his clothes.

There are a few special things about the Taiwanese-American designer’s spring/summer 2010 collection. It was on the one hand ultra feminine with the inclusion of the sheer fabric, the bra tops, the shapely bodice, the body-conscious dresses, the eccentric puff-bottomed shorts and above all, his signature peek-all-toes heels worn by beautiful models with hair in a pretty long braid.

Especially with this fantastic fairytalesque perfect hair and makeup, the girl might seem like a powerless little creature; but she certainly is none of the above; for Mr. Wang’s classic college girl is charged with the Wang Force. The look is toughened up, as Mr. Wang added well-tailored utilitarian shirts, military vests and jackets to her fun and sexy wardrobe. Worn with loose-fitted “boyfriend” trousers and a pair of his toeless knee-hi soccer-style-inspired socks, sportswear is a word that truly bubbles to mind, as it genuinely demonstrates the collection’s youthful and rebellious energy.

Out of everything I have seen, I am really liking these daring belly-button baring looks, which reminds us to once again pick up our health diaries and start working out, because if you’ve got it, bare it!

All in all, I like this collection for the extensive variety of everyday garments cut in that explosively cool way of his. The entire collection could be layered the way you want to wear it, so you are not really restricted to one way of wearing it; but rather, you just work it in your own Wang way! Wonderful, no?
