As we all know, the latest Chanel Cruise show is set in the Lido Beach at Venice – the same setting of Thomas Mann’s novella “Death in Venice”. I have never read “Death in Venice” (we only read “Tonio Kröger” in class), though I have heard a lot about it in my German lectures and obviously, my lecturer is a big fan of Mr. Mann’s intricate work.
Unfortunately, I am not the type of person who goes reading books because my lecturer mentioned how great it is in class; but since it crosses path with “Chanel” now, I read the wikipedia entry and ohhh… The storyline is so absolutely poetic and I love it!
I will definitely read it sometime soon.
Though that great joyous day has not arrived yet, ever since I heard about this “beautiful 13 year old boy named Tadzio” in the novel, I think I lost my gendar (short for gender radar): I can’t tell girls apart from boys, i.e. certain beautiful swedish boy/men from their female counterpart, middle aged butch unisex dressed women from men.
But is sexuality really that big of an issue?
