Despite the current maelstrom surrounding my economic situation, I gave in and purchased the April issue of Harper’s Bazaar Australia like there was no other way for survival in my life. Well… You have to admit it: the accompanying ‘free’ Sass & Bide rose-print T-Shirt is more than devilishly tempting.
Upon flipping through the magazine at home, my mind wondered upon my constant struggle of inability to control myself oneself at newsagencies and bookstores of no exceptions at all as well as my questionable (and at certain times embarrassing) judgement. Perhaps this time, I also made such a mistake.
The issue features a re-print of Hollywood bombshell Scarlett Johansson photographed by Alexi Lubomirski. Originally published for the U.S. edition of Harper’s Bazaar’s Valentine’s Day special for February, Ms. Johansson wears romantic red gowns by four of the finest designers at present: Carolina Herrera, Donna Karan, Roberto Cavalli and Oscar de la Renta. Wearing her trademark red lipstick, the alluring Ms. Johansson, with her shining wavy perfectly-blonde hair and curvaceous frame completed each editorial page with class, elegance and style.
By all means, I do adore and admire Alexi’s remarkable work (and delectable looks); but somehow I just don’t find this issue a particular excitement or a pleasure of any kind to flip through. Even with the new season stock, it all seems a little dated and dull; and paying AUD$10.95 for this issue just does not put a smile on my face nor does it seem mathematically logical to me. Vogue Australia re-prints all the time and the price stays at the $7.95 margin.
Mr. Huckbody, if you are going to charge me $3 whole Australian dollars more, please work harder to justify for this increase.
