Patrik Rzepski Fall/Winter Ready-to-wear 2008/09 New York

Can you believe it? I first heard of the 26-year-old New York based designer Patrik Rzepski not because of his designs, lexposure.net or style.com; but because I saw him on a common friend’s photoalbum on facebook! His eyes were so piercing in that picture that I was hypnotised to google him. After that, you know what? I love him even more!

For fall 2008, the once 20-year-old fashion school dropout continue to draw aesthetic inspirations from punk rock, violence and teenage angst. The show opened along to a soundtrack of the respective genre with Russian model Ekaterina Kiseleva, who perfectly encapsulated the energy of the collection with that undeniable attitude and the mystery that bears along with it. For me, the collection transcends past the vulgar and aggressive elements of punk rock and even contradictorily emits an air of grace, elegance and class in a unique way that is different from the traditional Romanticists. That only demonstrates the complexity and versatility of the clothes. Undeniably this season’s focus is on black and in particular, the experimentation with an ultra-sheer ultra-seductive underlayer, which successively gives off a look that is suggestive and ultimately very alluring!

Overall, I like Mr. Rzepski’s design, because it is less overt on the surface and yet still very deep and powerful and so indubitably sexy! I am definitely looking forward to seeing his work for Spring/Summer 2009!
