Schuhen bei Sportsgirl

Schuhen bei Sportsgirl

Saw this a few week ago in my email inbox and wondered if half the girls who go into Sportsgirl regularly know which model these shoes are inspired by. Well… Let me help you ID these gorgeous girls! ;)

Gemma – Gemma Ward. [This one is easy!]

Raquel – Raquel Zimmerman? [Is she popular in Australia?]

Lily – Lily Cole? Or possibly Lily Donaldson? Both very popular.

Agyness – Agyness Deyn a.k.a. Laura Hollins. [Duh! So easy!]

Catherine – Catherine McNeil. [Huh?]

Erin – Erin O’Connor? Erin Heatherton? Nah… I think they are referring to Erin Wasson, because Erin W. rocks!

There’s only one Naomi!

There\'s only one Naomi There\'s only one Naomi

Vogue Italia features the most beautiful black models in the industry in its July 2008 “Black” issue. One of the sexiest picture I saw was Ms. Campbell educating the world on how to play pool properly and ohhh… it’s true: who else could teach us something like that? There’s only one Naomi!

Lanvin Resort Collection 2009

Lanvin’s Carneval

Recently, my sister keeps asking me the question of whether Dior Homme compliments Dior Femme and I came to the clever conclusion of telling her Dior Homme and Dior Femme compliment each other in the way Marilyn Manson complimented Dita von Teese; and now after seeing Alber Elbaz’s latest presentation for his resort collection 2009, I find myself asking the question: “Does Lanvin Femme stand up to the fine standards of Lanvin Homme set by Designer Lucas Ossendrijver?”

As I have found out, Alber’s inspiration this season is the “ideal of vacation”, in particular concentrating on the “perfect American [look] of the fifties—but made in the wrong way.” Perhaps it is everything wrong that becomes right for Lanvin Femme. For me, what is special about this collection is definitely the silhouette created by those long lean dresses and in particular how it accentuates the feminine body. The prints furthermore brings sunshine to any day of the week.

Kenzo Mens Spring/Summer 2009 Paris

Marcus Hedbrandh från Lund presenterer kläder från Kenzos vår sommar kollektion 2009

A trip to the tribes

Marcus Hedbrandh presents Kenzo’s Spring/Summer 2009 Collection for Men

Inspiration runs wild at Kenzo this season, as designer Antonio Marras submerge the scene with a load of references to ethnical cultures. Rich Persian carpet stretch majestically across the runway, as the models set their charcoaled eyes compellingly down the runway ready to charm the hearts of the village people. Textualisation is an important focus, as it creates this abundant breezy flow that keeps the summer heat wave down. Nonetheless, comfort and luxury was not compromise as both factor runs high as usual. The show in addition featured an abundant mix of rich lavish colours: velvet purple and peacock green were amongst my favourite.

Tuleh Resort collection 2009

Prints of Tuleh

There are all sorts of prints at Tuleh this season. Everything floral and anything animals. Wild leopards and zebras run wild on fabrics, while everything floral blossoms sweetly in the house of Tuleh. At the mean time, designer Bryan Bradley did not forget the working culture as he offers wide-legged disco pants from 7pm to 7am. In general, it felt this is a youthful mix. All the clothes are very wearable, but perhaps lacks that extra something to fight to the top against other top resort houses.

Soft Organza

In my mentality, Valentino’s woman has a lot of power in terms of all things in life. She is strong, has a lot of drive and ambition. Yet seeing her in those pretty ruffles and soft hues this season really made me focus on a long-forgotten aspect of this incredible woman: how gentle she could be. This impression, I find, is perfectly transpired by the striking Ukrainian model Alyona Osmanova.

The ex-Gucci designer Alessandra Facchinetti, who shows her third collection at Valentino this season, displays a collection that fully penetrates into the DNA of the Valentino brand and esp. the kind of timeless classical elegance that is unique to the Valentino brand. Interesting pieces included the lemon yellow suit and a new addition to the collection of dresses in the shade of red that is famous dubbed “Valentino red”. What I love the most from the show are those organza gowns on Ukrainian model Alyona Osmanova. Whether in baby blue, milky white or simply black, they are purely heavenly.

There are three things I love about Vera Wang’s collection this year. The first of which is the use of that crisp fabrics crinkled together. Whether pants or dresses, it is truly effortlessly chic! The second thing is the earthy tones. It’s so heavenly. Finally, the third thing is: Anabela Belikova! Over the seasons, Vera Wang has really striked me as a “Here Comes the Sun” brand and the doll-faced Belarusian model, who was once listed as Anastasia Belikava with the agency “Sergey Nagorny Minsk” in Belarus, is just perfect for the brand, as her face lights up any image and I am happy that she got the Spring/Summer campaign.

After a long wait, here is a preview of Balenciaga’s resort collection. For me, it’s sometimes hard to understand the aesthetics behind Balenciaga in the showroom. It is much more easily understandable when worn by the likes of French Vogue Editor-in-Chief Carine Roitfeld, but nonetheless, I thought the show was very interesting.

There seems to be a play of geometrics and shapes in this collection, which features well-tailored pants once again, some of which have cut-out geometrics at the knees. I liked how Nicolas Ghesquière played with the lighting and the white background to almost create a heavenly atmosphere and this really contrasts with the strong shapes of the clothes, which is extremely sculpted, extremely streamline that it appears stiff and mechanical.

Balenciaga is ahead of the curve. I have a lot of catching up to do.

On an attempt to convert me into a true blue citizen of New York, my sister told me to check out Vena Cava’s collection. Vena Cava is, of course, one of the hottest labels from New York at the moment. What usually happens is that I hate everything she likes, only because she likes it; but this time, surprisingly, I have to give in, because I do like this collection.

The collection is described by designer Sophie Buhai, one half of the designer duo at the Vena Cava label, as “celestial sportswear”1. Everything is very cruisey with thin layers of whimsical fabrics flowing around the body. Tops and dresses are tied high waisted with a drawstring to show off the waistline as well as to lengthen the legs. One thing I was surprised about was definitely how Designers Sophie Buhai and Lisa Mayock could incorporate the tree-trunk brown colour into the show. Rather than making everything look dull and decomposed, the look was surprisingly young and fresh.
